Father Seán writes ...

Today we begin the season of Advent. A regular feature in churches during this time, is the Advent wreath. Traditionally, the wreath is a circle of evergreen branches and both the evergreen branches, and the circular shape represent the passing of time and eternal life. The shape of the wreath, with no beginning or end, reflects the complete and endless love that Jesus has for us. It also holds four candles. The symbolism of the candles is multi-layered: I usually say that the first candle represents the story of salvation and reminds us of hope; the second stands for the prophets who shared the message of salvation and so is associated with peace and preparation; the third reminds us of the greatest of the prophets, John the Baptist, and speaks of joy; the final candle stands for Mary and so represents love. As we begin this great season, we ask that its rich symbolism will encourage us to prepare well for Christmas.

Childrens Liturgy

On the First Sunday of every month, we celebrate a Children’s Mass and the children play an active part in this Mass. We especially welcome families with young children to this Mass.

On every other Sunday, during the 08:45 Mass on Sundays, children are invited to share in the enjoyment of the parish’s thriving Children’s Liturgy Group.

The group is run by parishioners (all of whom are DBS checked) and help is particularly welcomed from parents.

The Chidren’s liturgy has two groups:

  • Pre First Holy Communion – for younger children who had not yet made their First Holy Communion.
  • Post First Holy Communion – for children who have made their First Holy Communion but have not yet been confirmed.
